The Picnic Game

Here's a fun memory game you can play with just about any size group, although three to five individuals works best. It takes maybe 10-15 minutes. No special skills are needed, although some familiarity with spelling and the alphabet helps. Ideal for boring car trips with the family.

Youngest person: "I'm going on a picnic, and I'm bringing APPLES (for example)."

"I'm going on a picnic and I'm bringing an ACCOMPLICE."

Next person: "I'm going on a picnic, and I'm bringing apples and BANANAS (or any other word that starts with B)."

Next person: "I'm going on a picnic, and I'm bringing apples, bananas, and CHICKEN!"

And so on. Will the Z-person be able to remember all 25 picnic items that came before? Maybe? Try it and find out! By the way, choosing food or other "normal" picnic items is completely optional. (Don't be surprised when an X-ray machine shows up at your picnic!)

Variation: If your group finds the Picnic Game too easy going through the alphabet just once, try a second run through with no repeats allowed!

Another variation: Picnic items must be part of an agreed-upon theme, like "found on a farm," "used as a prop in a Disney movie," or "concepts only." (Just imagine: "I'm going on a picnic and I'm bringing ALACRITY, BEAUTY, CYNICISM, DOGMA, EDUCATION, FALLACIES...etc." Oh my, what fun!)
